Hello there!
I’m currently working on The Aura Series, which began in earnest during the pandemic, although I’ve been exploring the swirling, colorful patterns since childhood. I was diagnosed with Chronic Migraine Disorder as a teenager and this series has given me a way to process my grief for the healthy body I don’t have, for the plans that I’ve had to change. It’s allowed me the ability to show others, this is what I’ve been seeing. This is what aura feels like, as your eyes roam around these colorful swirls until you feel a little lost and dizzy. No, it still doesn’t make perfect sense to me either, but I’m inching closer. Throughout this series, I’ve worked with several processes and mediums. Collage, needle felting and batik have been my main loves for the last few years. The main thing they have in common is being incredibly time consuming. Meticulous, tedious processes are my happy place. I work as a full time art teacher with students on the autism spectrum and am working towards a masters in expressive therapies as well as a yoga teacher certification. I’m forever looking for answers about why movement and artistic expression are so healing. Thank you to my family and close friends for the endless support. When migraine pulls the world out from under me, you help keep me steady. It is impossible to manage chronic illness alone. You know who you are and you mean the world to me. |
