Teaching Philosophy

have a Special interest in the intersection of art and wellness, specifically in mental and behavioral health. I know not everyone I work with will need technical art skills after they leave my class, and plenty probably won't think of themselves as artists to begin with. That's okay! The arts are for every age, confidence and ability level. It is important for us all to practice thinking creatively and independently, no matter where we are in life and where we hope to go. The arts are a perfect tool to practice with.
Art also has a long history of providing an outlet for expression when other means of communication fall short, and I encourage the use of creative expression and therapeutic art processes in my classroom. I believe in creating because creating feels good, and I feel there's something to be gained from paying attention to that simple idea.

I've found a home in early childhood because like artists, children are curious people by nature; they're researchers, investigators and explorers. I'm not afraid to have fun and get messy to get immersed in material and my students shouldn't be either. My classroom is a place where students play, cooperate, and learn to express themselves.
